Position Summary:
The Lead Medical Assistant oversees the day-to-day clinical and operational functions of the field Medical Assistants, which aid with clinical administrative tasks for the Wound Care Programs. This role provides guidance and mentorship to a team of medical assistants, ensures regulatory and documentation compliance, and serves as the primary liaison between program staff and clinical leadership. The Lead MA functions as both a hands-on trainer and a frontline supervisor, maintaining high standards of care quality, workflow efficiency, and patient satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This role provides guidance and mentorship to a team of medical assistants, ensures regulatory and documentation compliance, and serves as the primary liaison between program staff and clinical leadership. The Lead MA functions as both a hands-on trainer and a frontline supervisor, maintaining high standards of care quality, workflow efficiency, and patient satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee scheduling team to ensure proper patient follow-up
- Orient and train new MAs on program-specific workflows, clinical protocols, and documentation requirements
- Conduct or contribute to performance evaluations and identify continuing education needs
- Coordinate staffing schedules to ensure appropriate coverage across all three programs
- Serve as the first point of escalation for staff questions, patient concerns, and workflow issues
- Lead regular team huddles and participate in department-level quality improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate treatment logs, measurement tracking, and prior authorization documentation
- Ensure accurate and complete ICD-10 coding documentation
- Communicate supply needs and operational issues to the Program Director proactively
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Medical Assisting or related field preferred
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred
- Phlebotomy certification or demonstrated phlebotomy competency preferred
- Minimum 3 years of clinical medical assisting experience required
- Minimum 1 year of experience in wound care or a specialty clinic strongly preferred
- Prior lead, charge, or supervisory experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and hold peers accountable in a respectful, professional manner
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills in a high-volume clinical environment
